That feeling of being insulated from the consequences of actions, or words spoken, a sense of importance drawn from one's own mind and bolstered by a deadened sense of perspective--why would anyone want to be sober if they had a choice? Besides, with a name like Epiales it's practically spelled out... Which is just one of the many unwelcome puns he makes before over-emphasizing the key syllable.

Obnoxious, yes. Rude, most definitely. But as drunks go he doesn't cause enough grief or damage to warrant losing his patronage. Nobody calls out his name when he enters, several will mutter his name along with a mild oath and some will finish their drink and leave but again Epi's braggart ways and one-man revelry don't rise to the level of clearing the tavern.

Epiales has a pet horned rabbit thing which makes its contempt of him clearer than most others bother with. While Epi is usually drunk and disorderly he can pull himself together and function as a capable fighter. His drunken bravado is not entirely alcohol fueled, he can hold his own in close combat and has served in many battles. As much as he will brag about having served he avoids speaking about how awesome he was or the overwhelming number of foes he slew which would seem like the sort of thing a tavern regular would make sure to mention.
